For older versions of InDesign, please go here<\/a>.<\/p>\n This simple tool offers an alternative method to using the layers palette for moving objects between layers.<\/p>\n It also has an optional feature to nudge all items on the layer throughout the whole document or across the current spread.<\/p>\n To install LayerLifter<\/em>, you first need to download three different items.<\/p>\n https:\/\/www.rorohiko.com\/downloads\/LayerLifter.1.0.3.zip<\/a><\/p>\n Pick the correct link, depending on your computer and version of InDesign:<\/p>\n https:\/\/plugininstaller.com<\/a><\/p>\n You need to have a user account with Admin privileges on your computer.<\/p>\n If you don’t have such an account, you need to talk to your I.T. department – they will need to help you install the plug-ins.<\/p>\n Make sure InDesign is not running.<\/p>\n Using the Finder, navigate to the InDesign Plug-Ins<\/em> folder for your version of InDesign.<\/p>\n On most computers this will be on a path similar to Create a folder called\u00a0Rorohiko<\/em> – this is not absolutely necessary, but if you also use plug-ins from other companies, it’s better to put them into separate folders, nested below the Plug-Ins<\/em> folder. You will probably need to provide your computer login password in order to create this folder.<\/p>\n Decompress the APIDToolAssistant_Mac_20xx…zip<\/em> file and move the contents into the\u00a0Rorohiko<\/em> folder. Once installed, it should look similar to the screenshot below:<\/p>\n Decompress the LayerLifter…zip<\/em> file.<\/p>\n Move the plug-in file LayerLifter.spln<\/em> and the image file\u00a0 com.rorohiko.layerlifter.clip.png<\/em> into the Rorohiko<\/em>\u00a0folder inside the InDesign\u00a0Plug-Ins<\/em>\u00a0folder.<\/p>\n You can now launch InDesign.<\/p>\n Now scroll further down, past the Installing on Windows<\/em> section,\u00a0to the Usage<\/em> section.<\/p>\n On your computer, you need to have a user account with Admin privileges.<\/p>\n If you don’t have such an account, you need to talk to your I.T. department – they will need to help you install the plug-ins.<\/p>\n Make sure InDesign is not running.<\/p>\n Using the Explorer, navigate to the InDesign Plug-Ins<\/em> folder for your version of InDesign.<\/p>\n On most computers this will be on a path similar to Create a folder called\u00a0Rorohiko<\/em> – this is not absolutely necessary, but if you also use plug-ins from other companies, it’s better to put them into separate folders, nested below the Plug-Ins<\/em> folder. Once installed, it should look similar to the screenshot below:<\/p>\n Right-click the LayerLifter…zip<\/em> file and select\u00a0Extract All…<\/em><\/p>\n Move the plug-in file LayerLifter.spln<\/em> and the image file\u00a0 com.rorohiko.layerlifter.clip.png<\/em> into the Rorohiko<\/em>\u00a0folder inside the InDesign\u00a0Plug-Ins<\/em>\u00a0folder.<\/p>\n You can now launch InDesign.<\/p>\n First select one or more objects on a spread, and then right-click (Win) or control-click (Mac), and pick a destination layer from the\u00a0LayerLifter<\/em>\u00a0context menu.<\/p>\n There\u2019s also an optional layer\u00a0shifter<\/em> feature for people who have purchased an APID ToolAssistant<\/em><\/a>\u00a0license.<\/p>\n The layer shifter allows you to shift all items on a particular layer \u2013 either throughout the whole document, or across the current spread.<\/p>\n You can select either option via\u00a0API \u2013 LayerLifter \u2013 Preferences\u00a0<\/em>\u2013 click the checkbox in front of\u00a0Drag Attached Layer On All Spreads<\/em>\u00a0to get a document-wide layer shift.<\/p>\n Now select any page item that resides on the layer you want to shift, and select\u00a0API \u2013 LayerLifter \u2013 Attach To Layer.\u00a0<\/em>A small paperclip should appear next to the page item to show it is attached to its layer. When you now shift this page item, it will \u2018drag\u2019 its whole layer along.
