For older versions of InDesign, please go here<\/a>.<\/p>\n This free tool gives you a floating library-palette filled with images that are automatically retrieved from one or more local folders. This is a native InDesign library panel, not cloud-based.<\/p>\n Point the tool to a folder, and in return it will offer you a floating palette containing the images stored in that folder, ready to be drag-dropped into your document.<\/p>\n This is very useful in a structured environment, for example in the design of advertisements for a newspaper.<\/p>\n This plug-in is based on an commonly encountered workflow where a designer receives:<\/p>\n This tool makes managing that a bit easier: simply open the template and select Reload Image Library From Document Folder<\/em>.<\/p>\n That fills up your image template library with the images that are available in the same folder as the document template.<\/p>\n ImageLibraryLoader <\/em>is free, but you can donate towards the effort to maintain this tool by way of PluginInstaller<\/em>.<\/p>\n If you decide ImageLibraryLoader<\/em> works for you, and you want to help keep this tool alive, see below for a clickable link that will add a bookmark for ImageLibraryLoader<\/em>\u00a0into PluginInstaller<\/em>. This bookmark then allows you to donate for the project.<\/p>\n At some point into the future,\u00a0PluginInstaller<\/em> will also handle downloading and installing of all of our plug-ins, but for the time being, ImageLibraryLoader<\/em>\u00a0still needs to be installed through a manual process.<\/p>\n To install ImageLibraryLoader<\/em>, you first need to download three different items.<\/p>\n https:\/\/www.rorohiko.com\/downloads\/ImageLibraryLoader.1.1.1.zip<\/a><\/p>\n Pick the correct link, depending on your computer and version of InDesign:<\/p>\n https:\/\/plugininstaller.com<\/a><\/p>\n You need to have a user account with Admin privileges on your computer.<\/p>\n If you don’t have such an account, you need to talk to your I.T. department – they will need to help you install the plug-ins.<\/p>\n Make sure InDesign is not running.<\/p>\n Using the Finder, navigate to the InDesign Plug-Ins<\/em> folder for your version of InDesign.<\/p>\n On most computers this will be on a path similar to Create a folder called\u00a0Rorohiko<\/em> – this is not absolutely necessary, but if you also use plug-ins from other companies, it’s better to put them into separate folders, nested below the Plug-Ins<\/em> folder. You will probably need to provide your computer login password in order to create this folder.<\/p>\n Decompress the APIDToolAssistant_Mac_20xx…zip<\/em> file and move the contents into the\u00a0Rorohiko<\/em> folder. Once installed, it should look similar to the screenshot below:<\/p>\n Decompress the ImageLibraryLoader…zip<\/em> file.<\/p>\n Move the plug-in file ImageLibraryLoader.spln<\/em> into the\u00a0Rorohiko<\/em>\u00a0folder inside the InDesign\u00a0Plug-Ins<\/em>\u00a0folder.<\/p>\n You can now launch InDesign.<\/p>\n Now scroll further down, past the Installing on Windows<\/em> section,\u00a0to the Usage<\/em> section.<\/p>\n On your computer, you need to have a user account with Admin privileges.<\/p>\n If you don’t have such an account, you need to talk to your I.T. department – they will need to help you install the plug-ins.<\/p>\n Make sure InDesign is not running.<\/p>\n Using the Explorer, navigate to the InDesign Plug-Ins<\/em> folder for your version of InDesign.<\/p>\n On most computers this will be on a path similar to Create a folder called\u00a0Rorohiko<\/em> – this is not absolutely necessary, but if you also use plug-ins from other companies, it’s better to put them into separate folders, nested below the Plug-Ins<\/em> folder. You will probably need to provide your computer login password in order to create this folder.<\/p>\n Right-click the APIDToolAssistant_Win_20xx…zip<\/em> file and select Extract All… <\/em><\/p>\n Move the two plug-in files and the two plug-in folders into the Rorohiko<\/em> folder. Once installed, it should look similar to the screenshot below:<\/p>\n Right-click the ImageLibraryLoader…zip<\/em> file and select\u00a0Extract All…<\/em><\/p>\n Move the plug-in file ImageLibraryLoader.spln<\/em> into the\u00a0Rorohiko<\/em>\u00a0folder inside the InDesign\u00a0Plug-Ins<\/em>\u00a0folder.<\/p>\n You can now launch InDesign.<\/p>\n Make sure you have a document open \u2013 the API menu will not be fully populated until you open or create a document.<\/p>\n Click the API menu, there should be five menu items:<\/p>\n Use the Add To Image Library From Document Folder\u2026<\/em> or Add To Image Library\u2026<\/em> options to cumulatively add images to the palette from a folder. The second option uses your current document folder.<\/p>\n Use the Reload Image Library From Document Folder\u2026<\/em> or Reload Image Library\u2026<\/em> options to replace the images in the palette with the images from a folder.
