Unlike previous versions, this version is non-destructive and does not use character styles to &#8216;mark&#8217; the issues.<\/p>\n<p>Word stacks occur when identical words repeat vertically across lines of text, which can be distracting and visually unappealing in layout design.<\/p>\n<p>This script helps designers quickly find and address these repetitions, ensuring a cleaner and more professional-looking document.<\/p>\n<p><em>SmokeWordStacks<\/em> is fully functional and free to use. However, it occasionally shows a donation reminder dialog. Make sure you have build #558 or higher installed (the build number is shown in the lower right-hand corner of the PluginInstaller windows).<\/li>\n<li><strong>Create an Account<\/strong>.<br \/>\nIf this is your first time using <em>PluginInstaller<\/em>, you&#8217;ll need to create a new account and register it within <em>PluginInstaller<\/em>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Add a <em>SmokeWordStacks<\/em>\u00a0Bookmark<\/strong>.<br \/>\nAdd a bookmark for <em>SmokeWordStacks<\/em>\u00a0into <em>PluginInstaller<\/em> by clicking the following link:<br \/>\n<a href=\"tightenercatalogentry:https%3A%2F%2Fstore.tgrg.net%2Fproducts%2FSmokeWordStacks.cate\">Add <em>SmokeWordStacks<\/em>\u00a0Bookmark into <em>PluginInstaller<br \/>\n<\/em><\/a>Alternatively, you can use the <em>Browse the Store for Software<\/em> window in <em>PluginInstaller<\/em> and find the <em>SmokeWordStacks<\/em>\u00a0bookmark in the <em>Rorohiko Catalog<\/em>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Download and Install<\/strong>.<br \/>\nOnce the bookmark is listed in the <em>Installing and Ordering<\/em> window, select it and click the <em>Download<\/em> button.<br \/>\nAfter the download, choose your InDesign version from the <em>Install Target<\/em> dropdown menu and click the <em>Install<\/em> button.<br \/>\n<em>SmokeWordStacks<\/em> will appear in the InDesign <em>Scripts<\/em> panel under the <em>User<\/em> section.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2>Using the Sample File<\/h2>\n<p>The InDesign Scripts panel also includes an entry called <em>Copy Sample File with Documentation to Desktop.jsx<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Double-click this script to access a sample InDesign file containing a reusable sample configuration.<\/p>\n<p>You can use this file to experiment with <em>SmokeWordStacks<\/em> and understand how it works.<\/p>\n<p>You can &#8216;undo&#8217; the effect of running the script by deleting the\u00a0<em>SmokeWordStacks Markers\u00a0<\/em>layer.<\/p>\n<h2>Donating<\/h2>\n<p>The script is free and fully functional, but donations are encouraged. When you run the script, it will occasionally show a reminder dialog.<\/p>\n<p>Go to the <em>Installing and Ordering<\/em> window, select the <em>SmokeWordStacks<\/em> bookmark, adjust the donation and order reference as desired, and click <em>Purchase.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Activation may take some time to process; keep an eye on the <em>Licenses, Activations, and Pending Orders<\/em> window for updates. Activating after donating will suppress the occasional reminder dialog for a year.<\/p>\n<h2>Configuration<\/h2>\n<p>You can change the behavior of the script by modifying the configuration data in the text frame on the pasteboard.<\/p>\n<h3>INI configuration frame<\/h3>\n<p>The format is pretty self-explanatory; skip over this section if too much info.<\/p>\n<p>The detailed\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/TL;DR\">TL;DR<\/a>\u00a0information for the formatting rules:<\/p>\n<p>The text frame is formatted in a format similar to the old-style Windows INI format, with some additional flexibility built-in.<\/p>\n<p>The advantages of this approach is that each document can \u2018carry\u2019 its own configuration and the configuration is plain for everyone to see, in a human-readable form, rather than being hidden away on some preferences dialog.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The information is spread over multiple paragraphs or lines.<\/li>\n<li>There are two types of relevant lines:\u00a0<code>[SECTION]<\/code>\u00a0or\u00a0<code>name=value<\/code>. Any lines that do not consist of either a name in square brackets or a name, an equal sign and a value are ignored.<\/li>\n<li>The information within the square brackets (the\u00a0<code>SECTION<\/code>) or information to the left of the equal signs should not be edited (the\u00a0<code>name<\/code>).<\/li>\n<li>The\u00a0<code>name<\/code>\u00a0to the left of the\u00a0<code>=<\/code>\u00a0are case-insensitive and only letters\u00a0<code>a-z<\/code>\u00a0and digits\u00a0<code>0-9<\/code>\u00a0are taken into account. Names like\u00a0<code>abc<\/code>,\u00a0<code>a B c<\/code>, or\u00a0<code>A'b'c<\/code>\u00a0are all interpreted as the same thing \u2013\u00a0<code>abc<\/code><\/li>\n<li>The information to the right of the equal signs can be freely edited<\/li>\n<li>By default, leading and trailing spaces are ignored.\n<pre>someData =some Value\r\nsomeData=\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0some Value\r\n      someData      =        some Value<\/pre>\n<p>are all equivalent \u2013 they all mean\u00a0<code>someData=\"some Value\"<\/code><\/li>\n<li>Quotes can be used to express leading or trailing spaces. Curly quotes are seen as equivalent to regular quotes.\n<pre>someData = \"  some Value  \"\r\nsomeData= \u201c  some Value  \u201d<\/pre>\n<p>both indicate that\u00a0<code>someData=\"\u00a0 some Value\u00a0 \"<\/code>\u00a0including the leading and trailing spaces.<\/li>\n<li>Numeric values can have units and the script will auto-convert between units as needed. If the horizontal unit is\u00a0<code>cm<\/code>\u00a0and the label frame width is written as\u00a0<code>1 inch<\/code>, the width will automatically be interpreted as\u00a0<code>2.54 cm<\/code><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Description of the options<\/h3>\n<p>The INI data contains two or more sections. There is a section <code>[main]<\/code> which is a &#8216;template&#8217; for the other sections.<\/p>\n<p>Then there are one or more sections <code>[profile: SomeProfileName]<\/code> which are provided as options when the script is run.<\/p>\n<p>Each of these sections starts out identical to <code>[main]<\/code>\u00a0 but with some individual settings overridden.<\/p>\n<h4><em>horizontal position tolerance<\/em><\/h4>\n<p>How far to the left or the right can the text on the second line shift and still be recognized as a &#8216;stack&#8217;. Can include measurement unit in the setting (e.g. &#8220;30 pt&#8221;).<\/p>\n<p>For words at the begin or end of the line we can optionally set a separate tolerance: the eye might pick these up easier than words in the middle of the line &#8211; see <em>at end of line horizontal position tolerance<\/em> and <em>at begin of line horizontal position tolerance<\/em>. Similar also for <em>hyphenation horizontal position tolerance<\/em><\/p>\n<h4><em>at end of line horizontal position tolerance<\/em><\/h4>\n<p>Optional. Set a separate tolerance at the end of the line: the eye might pick these up easier than words in the middle of the line. Can include measurement unit in the setting (e.g. &#8220;30 pt&#8221;).<\/p>\n<h4><em>check in middle of line<\/em><\/h4>\n<p>Check in the middle of the line. Type a <em>Yes<\/em> or a <em>No<\/em> here.<\/p>\n<h4><em>check at begin of line<\/em><\/h4>\n<p>Check at the beginning of the line. Type a <em>Yes<\/em> or a <em>No<\/em> here.<\/p>\n<h4><em>check at end of line<\/em><\/h4>\n<p>Check at the end of the line. Type a <em>Yes<\/em> or a <em>No<\/em> here.<\/p>\n<h4><em>check for hyphenation stacks<\/em><\/h4>\n<p>The script can check for &#8216;hyphenation stacks&#8217; &#8211; i.e. consecutive lines that end in hyphens.\u00a0Set this to <i>Yes i<\/i>f you want to find such stacks.<\/p>\n<h4><em>case sensitive<\/em><\/h4>\n<p>The script will ignore case differences when you set this to <em>No<\/em>, e.g. &#8220;The&#8221; and &#8220;the&#8221; would be considered equivalent. Probably you want to leave this at <em>Yes<\/em> for most purposes.<\/p>\n<h4><em>ignore non letters<\/em><\/h4>\n<p>The script can ignore non-letters. Normally, you want this set to <em>No<\/em> for most purposes.<\/p>\n<h4><em>check whole words<\/em><\/h4>\n<p>Whether to only compare whole words vs. segments within words. Type a <em>Yes<\/em> or a <em>No<\/em> here.<\/p>\n<h4><em>num letters to overlap<\/em><\/h4>\n<p>Leave this empty, or set to 0, to check for whole words only. Set this to a value (e.g. 3) to check for overlap at the end or beginning of a word. E.g. numLettersToOverlap = 3 would consider\u00a0&#8216;mondrian&#8217; and &#8216;monday&#8217; (mon&#8230;) as overlaps, as well as &#8216;overuse&#8217; and &#8216;mouse&#8217; (&#8230;use).<\/p>\n<h3>Marker Options<\/h3>\n<p>The following settings affect the markers that are created to point out the issues.<\/p>\n<h4><em>marker layer name<\/em><\/h4>\n<p>SmokeWordStacks adds a layer with markers. This setting allows you to change the name of that layer.
