For the latest version (which includes support for emoji characters like U+1F600), head to<\/p>\n https:\/\/github.com\/zwettemaan\/UnicodeInjectorForInDesign<\/a><\/p>\n Download the .zip file by clicking the green <Code> button, then picking Download ZIP<\/em> from the dropdown menu.<\/p>\n Once decompressed, the script, which includes a lot embedded documentation, can be found in the ‘dist’ folder.<\/p>\n You need to make a copy of the script file: copy it to the ‘User’ section of the Scripts Panel: <\/em>in InDesign, right-click\u00a0User<\/em> on the Scripts Panel<\/em>, select Reveal in Finder<\/em> or Reveal in Explorer <\/em>from the menu,\u00a0then navigate into<\/strong> the Scripts Panel<\/em> folder. Put the copy of the renamed script file there and it should appear on the Scripts Panel<\/em> in InDesign, under\u00a0User.<\/em><\/p>\n This free script will insert a sequence of one or more Unicode characters at the current insertion point in InDesign.<\/p>\n This script is configured by renaming a copy of the UnicodeInjector.jsx<\/em> file.<\/p>\n The idea is that you make one or more copies of this script, rename them according to the desired goal, and place these copies into your scripts folder.<\/p>\n For example, if you rename a copy of this script to:<\/p>\n U+0061 U+0062 Insert Unicode chars.jsx<\/em><\/p>\n and copy it into your InDesign Scripts Panel<\/em> folder, each time you set your text cursor in some text, then double-click the script (or hit a keyboard shortcut if you assign one), it will insert the unicode characters U+0061<\/em> and U+0062<\/em> (that is, ‘A’ and ‘B’ – it’s a silly example).<\/p>\n Make a duplicate of the\u00a0UnicodeInjector.jsx\u00a0<\/em>file and put it into the InDesign Script Panel<\/em> folder<\/p>\n Look up the Unicode characters you desire to insert (e.g. assume we want to insert a hair space, U+200A<\/em>).<\/p>\n Rename the copy of the script so the name contains the desired unicode(s) as well as some descriptive text – e.g.\u00a0U+200A Insert a hair space.jsx<\/em><\/p>\n Move the U+200A Insert a hair space.jsx<\/em> script to your InDesign Scripts folder.<\/p>\n The easiest way to do that is to start InDesign, then show the Scripts <\/em>Palette. (It’s under the Window – Automation<\/em> or Window – Utilities <\/em>menu).<\/p>\n Right-click or control-click the User<\/em>\u00a0entry on the Scripts<\/em> Palette and select Reveal in Explorer<\/em>\u00a0or Reveal in Finder<\/em>.<\/p>\n In the folder that opens, double-click the Scripts Panel<\/em>\u00a0folder so it opens up.<\/p>\n Move the newly renamed script into the Scripts Panel<\/em> folder.<\/p>\n Go back to InDesign – the script is ready for use.<\/p>\n Position your text cursor by double-clicking in any text frame, then double-click the script name on the Scripts<\/em> Palette; the unicode character(s) will be inserted in the text.<\/p>\n Keep in mind that unless the font used supports the inserted Unicode, a colored square will show up. If that happens, you might need to change the font (for example, select a Dingbat font).<\/p>\n To assign a keyboard shortcut to the script, go to the Edit – Keyboard Shortcuts…<\/em> menu. If you have not done so some time before, make a new set by clicking the New Set…<\/em> button.<\/p>\n If you already have a custom set, feel free to add to that set instead.<\/p>\n Select the Scripts<\/em> Product Area, and then find your scripts in the list. Assign any keyboard shortcuts as desired.<\/p>\n Repeat this procedure as many times as needed – you can have as many copies of this script as you want.<\/p>\n This script will ignore any descriptive text in the file name. So in the first example, the text Insert Unicode chars<\/em>\u00a0is ignored – only the U+0061<\/em> and U+0062<\/em> is interpreted.<\/p>\n The script understands the following notations:<\/p>\n U+nnnn<\/em> (U, +, then 1 to 4 hexadecimal digits)\u00a0Examples: U+0041, u+20eF, u+61 A copy of the script whose filename is\u00a0Insert the letter a with code 0d65.jsx\u00a0<\/em>will insert the letter ‘a’, as it contains 0d<\/em>\u00a0followed by a decimal number 65<\/em>.<\/p>\n You might need to insert spaces when using multiple codes and 0x<\/em> or 0d<\/em> notation.<\/p>\n For example, 0x61 0x61<\/em> will insert two 0x61<\/em> codes, whereas 0x610x61<\/em> without space inbetween\u00a0will insert a single 0x610<\/em> code, and will ignore the x61<\/em>.<\/p>\n There are many sources. Google is your friend. Prefix that code with U+ and put it into the script name.
